I’m JF Amprimoz, the owner and operator of Small Web Strategies. I spent several years working on SEO and content strategy for a large online publication, where I managed the creation of a portfolio generating over three million pageviews a month. I got an amazing amount of training and experience with everything from keyword research tools to training writers to organizing content. I found content strategy, SEO, analytics, and online marketing in a general sense, to be a fascinating intersection of technology, business, language, and math, so I absorbed everything I could.
In early 2012, I started helping small businesses with their websites. It was thrilling to see the difference I could make. By the end of the year I started Small Web Strategies. I wanted to make some of the tools and expertise traditionally used online by large enterprises available to smaller businesses, and while I’m at it, as much as possible, to demystify some of the important basics of SEO, content strategy, and analytics.
My motivation came from a few places, beyond the basic requirements of liking the work and being good at it. I think most people are drawn to leveling the playing field when they have the chance, so giving small businesses access to some big business methods offers a certain inherent satisfaction. The other factor in starting Small Web Strategies was that I found I enjoy working with small businesses. I get energized by the dedication and commitment of their owners and staffs and share in the satisfaction that comes with their success.
The business has, of course, changed. With long-term clients, I function more in a Chief Marketing Officer as a Service role than an external service provider. I have an amazing network of skilled professionals to provide the expertise I don’t have, which allows me to do larger projects and offer more inclusive and coordinated services. My excitement at seeing clients grow to accommodate the business their digital marketing efforts are generating, however, that hasn’t changed.
